Education

Vancouver is home to campuses of the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, the British Columbia Institute of Technology, and the newly-opened Fairleigh Dickinson University. Additional colleges include the Vancouver Community College and Langara College, while specialized educational institutions include the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design and the Vancouver Film School.

Health

Vancouver General Hospital, which is part of the Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre and the second largest hospital in Canada, is managed by the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. St. Paul's Hospital, Mount St. Joseph Hospital, and the Holy Family Hospital are all operated by Providence Health Care, a Roman Catholic care provider.

Transportation

Canada's second largest airport is found in Vancouver, the Vancouver International Airport. There are two ferry terminals for BC Ferry. The city's streetcar network was established in 1890, after which the Westminster and Vancouver Tramway Company began its operations. In 1958, the British Columbia Electric Railway urban and interurban railway system was discontinued and replaced by trolley and gas/diesel-powered buses. The SkyTrain is longest fully-automated light rapid transit system running on the longest transit-only bridge, the SkyBridge.

Media

Two English-language, two national, three Chinese-language, and two free newspapers are distributed daily throughout the city. It has three major radio stations as well as four community and campus ones. Vancouver is also one of the largest TV and film production centres in North America.
