Sports and Recreation
Vancouver has an abundance of parks, beaches, and mountains for all sorts of recreational activities imaginable. You can enjoy off-road cycling, skateboarding, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, golf, and water sports. It is also especially excited to play host to the 2010 Winter Olympics.
The North Shore Mountains consist of several mountains that serve as a beautiful backdrop for the city. There you'll find several trails like the Baden-Powell Trail, home of the Knee Knackering North Shore Trail Run cross-country race. There are also a couple of parks in the area, namely the Cypress Provincial Park and Mount Seymour Provincial Park. All these and more make for a great skiing and hiking destination in the Vancouver area.
The city's favorite pastimes include ice hockey, lacrosse, and Canadian football. Vancouver's respective sports teams play at the General Motors Place, BC Place, the Pacific Coliseum, and the Agrodome, as well as other sports facilities in neighboring cities. Its sports teams include the BC Lions (CFL), Vancouver Canadians (Northwest League), Vancouver Canucks (NHL), and the Vancouver Whitecaps (USL/W-League).
