Ottawa Restaurants

Being the capital of Canada makes Ottawa a natural magnet to all sorts of cultural influences, especially in cuisine. Get a glimpse of where to eat in the capital city:

First, get to know one of Ottawa's special treats, the beaver tail. This deep-fried pastry is often topped with sugar and cinnamon, although its varying recipes are just as popular.

Your best bet for the largest selection of culinary styles would be the Bayward (or ByWard) Market, the largest concentration of eateries in Canada's National Capital Region.

Not all delicacies are found in the heart of Ottawa, though. Aside from Bayward Market, get the authentic cuisine of China, Italy, India, Mexico, and more by heading over to its respective neighbourhoods. Somerset Street, Bank Street, Preston Street, and Elgin street are good places to visit (and everywhere in between!).

Of course, French restaurants are a given and it won't take much pain to find one just around the corner!

Here's something equally ubiquitous: shawarma. They make for a quick and easy-to-carry snack, and you can pick 'em up practically everywhere. Goes great with a glass from a nearby pub, too.

If you're in the mood for seafood, try out the freshest fish at The Fish Market Restaurant in The Market. Visit Hy's Steakhouse just near Parliament Hill and you might spot a politician or two.

Treat yourself out to something extra-fabulous at Domus on Murray Street, The Merlot at the Marriott Hotel, Signatures at Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute, Le Baccara at Casino du Lac-Leamy, or Eighteen at the Market.
