Halifax Retail
Halifax boasts of a thriving shopping scene that is sure to give your money's worth and please every buyer's taste. As can be expected of any city, the Downtown is the hub of commerce and shopping for Halifax. Downtown Halifax is home to hundreds of small shops, boutiques, and vendors, as well as the malls Maritime Mall, Barrington Place Shops, and Scotia Square.
The last one, Scotia Square, is a large commercial development that also offers office space. The entire development consists of five buildings, one of which is a hotel, and another as the two-level mall itself.
The city's Spring Garden Road is one of the busiest shopping areas in Canada's Atlantic Region, which means shopaholic tourists will certainly have the time of their lives there. The district is busy both day and night and boasts of a number of great boutiques, as well as cultural centers, pubs, and cafes.
A commercial district in West End Halifax also exists, centered on the Halifax Shopping Centre and West End Mall. The Quinpool district (a section of Quinpool Road and a few other adjoining streets) is another important shopping district in Halifax. Quinpool boasts of diverse local shops and restaurants.
The Hydrostone Market is one of the city's most interesting places to shop. Located in North End, it has 325 'European-themed' shops that were restored to look just as they did in the 1920s. The market is a great place to buy gifts, skin care and cosmetic products, home furnishings, antiques, and chocolates, among others.
Lastly, there are other shopping centers to be found outside the former City of Halifax (but within the HRM). One of these is the Mic Mac Mall, located in Dartmouth. The mall has three floors and approximately 160 stores, making it the largest in Canada's Atlantic provinces.
